LEADERSHIP TEAM CONCLUDES 2021 - 2024 STRATEGIC PLAN PROCESS
Earlier this summer, after a year and a half long process that included input from Coalition members, an equity-focused consultant, and many hours of work between Coalition leadership and staff, the Coalition has passed a strategic plan to drive its work through 2024.
Key Strategic Plan Elements:
MISSION:
King County Play Equity Coalition is a network of organizations dedicated to challenging and changing systems to shift power and center physical activity as a key part of health and youth development.
VISION:
A King County where all youth – and particularly youth from historically underserved groups – experience the transformative benefits of play, sports, outdoor recreation and physical activity.
VALUES:
- Communities of Color-centered. We shift power to communities of color to elevate the brilliance and expertise already there.
- Empowering play at all levels. We recognize the protective value of play and fun.
- Collaboration across sectors. We focus on systems-level solutions that require collaboration across public and private sectors.
- Disruption of traditional systems. We recognize and work to disrupt systematic racism and oppression that are upheld and perpetuated by the status quo.
GOALS:
- Shift power in the youth sports, outdoor recreation, and physical activity sector to BIPOC, community led organizations.
- Raise up play as a central component of healthy child development and a priority in regional policy-making, funding, and education decisions.
- Build a strong, connected, cross-sector network of organizations committed to Coalition mission.
- Build and support a strong, sustainable organizational structure grounded in equitable governance.
- Work towards equitable access to and change in ownership of sport and play infrastructure, facilities and fields.
